Whether it’s to foster or forever, it’s a journey they’ll never forget.

Transport Volunteer

If you’re wanting to help out but aren’t able to foster consider donating your time and giving a dog a lift!

There are times where we have a Carolina Dog that needs some assistance on their journey to forever.  This could be breaking them out from the shelter and giving them a freedom ride or getting them to their forever home.

Requirements for being a transport volunteer:

  • 23 years of age or older
  • Valid drivers license
  • Reliable means of transportation
  • Willing to drive at least 100 miles from your current location if you are available

Transport Volunteer Agreement

Safety leashes and collars

The safety of our rescued Carolina Dogs is always our number one priority and many dogs are able to easily slip out of a normal collar. For the safety of our rescues, we now require either a slip lead, martingale collar, or properly fitted harness be used for all rescue transports.

  • Majority of our rescues in route to forever homes have already been provided with one or more of these items
  • Assurance that at least one of the transport volunteers involved in the transition to or from a vehicle has or can obtain one of these items will be made prior to transportation being finalized.

Volunteer Transport FAQs

Will the rescue pay for gas/mileage?

Yes! If requested, the rescue will reimburse you for gas money via PayPal. Please print and submit your receipt for reimbursement.

How do I know when and where to meet up?

Once a transportation route is set up, we connect all approved transport volunteers involved so meet up locations that are safe and convenient for all parties can be arranged.  Meeting locations are always made in public locations during the day unless prior agreements between transport volunteers, fosters, or adopters have been arranged and approved.

How do I know when transportation is needed?

Join our private group on Facebook for updates on when and where volunteer transport is needed.

Can I bring a friend or family member with me on the trip?

Absolutely! It’s often quite helpful to have another set of hands to help out during transport.

Are there any additional items I need during transport?

While we do not require that a crate be used during transport, we highly recommend one for the safety of both the dog and volunteers. Treats are always great thing to have on hand for your travel companion and we highly recommend bringing a water bottle and bowl for them to hydrate between stops.
